Panning for Gold: Finding Critical Knowledge Mid-Stream at Dewberry

May 2, 2017 KA Connect

Molly Johnson, Director of Communications
Dewberry

Talk Description
Capturing the deep smarts of a retiring subject matter expert requires a little finesse, a lot of convincing, and about three dozen stories told by people he's influenced and taught. This talk details how, through storytelling and understanding what mattered most to the recipients of the subject matter expert's wisdom, we were able to identify what business critical experience was left to be captured and how we went about doing so.

Speaker Bios
Molly is relatively new to knowledge management, having recently implemented Dewberry's social intranet system, and now tinkering with knowledge identification, collection, and transfer. Her day job consists of directing the communications department, which includes communications, graphic design, social media, public relations, and multimedia activities. She also enjoys working with the company's leadership on strategic planning, acquisition integration, and cultural initiatives.

Christopher Parsons of Knowledge Architecture interviews Molly Johnson of Dewberry and Dorothy Leonard of the Leonard-Barton Group at KA Connect 2017.
