KA Connect Speaker FAQ

How long are KA Connect talks?

KA Connect talks range from 35 to 45 minutes. Chris will work with each speaker to identify the optimum talk length for their story.

Will there be Q+A after each talk?

Yes. Chris or Susan will interview each speaker for about 10-15 minutes and then open up the floor for questions.

Will my KA Connect talk be recorded?

Yes. You can see examples of past KA Connect talks in the KA Connect Talk Archive.

How are the stage and room configured?

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Speakers have a confidence monitor which shows exactly what the audience is seeing. (Unfortunately, we cannot support showing presenter notes on the confidence monitor.)

  • Next to the confidence monitor is a timer, which counts down from 35 to 45 minutes depending on the length of your talk.

  • You will wear a wireless lavaliere microphone, enabling you to move freely across the stage.

  • We will provide a remote slide advancer for you, which will control the laptop in the back of the forum space. (You will not have a laptop on stage with you.)

  • The remote slide advancer does not have a laser pointer.

What is the content development process like?

We work very collaboratively with our speakers on content development, from identifying initial topics through refining presentations.

We like to think of KA Connect as a play that unfolds over two days. The primary reason for having such a collaborative process is to optimize opportunities to help each speaker build on the other talks at KA Connect while minimizing potential overlaps.

What software should I use for my presentation?

Most KA Connect speakers use Microsoft PowerPoint or Apple Keynote.

Should I set up my presentation in Standard (4:3) or Widescreen (16:9) mode?

We produce and film KA Connect entirely in HD, so you'll want to set up your presentations in Widescreen (16:9) mode before you start laying out your slides to ensure the best quality presentation.

For instructions on how to set this up in PowerPoint (and good background information on the topic in general) please see this article from Microsoft. If you are using Keynote, please see this article from Apple.

Is there a presentation template for the conference?

Nope. The only thing we ask is that you take it easy on the company branding.

What if my presentation has custom fonts?

Please send any custom fonts to us in advance so that we can test your presentation.

Can I use video in my talk?

Please do!

Do I need to introduce myself?

Nope. Chris or Susan will take care of introducing you.

Do I need to register for KA Connect?

Nope, Chris will take care of registering you.
