Speaker Bio
James Kent has more than 25 years of experience in marketing and communications for scientific and technical organizations in the U.S. and Europe. He is responsible for internal and external communications, media relations, Web and online communications, and firm-wide marketing functions. Jim was previously head of communications at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, director of communications at Thomson-Reuters, and held various communications and marketing roles in a 15-year career with Schlumberger, the oilfield services company.

Jim started his career in newspapers, working for dailies and weeklies in the U.S. Northeast. His reporting and writing has appeared in The Washington Post, The New York Times, American Scientist and Scientific American. He is coauthor of “A Moveable Shore: The Fate of the Connecticut Coast,” (Duke University Press, 1992) a layman’s guide to coastline evolution related to climate change.
