KA Connect FAQ

What is KA Connect?

KA Connect is an annual Knowledge Management conference specifically designed for the AEC industry. The mission of KA Connect is to Advance the Practice of Knowledge Management in the AEC Industry.

KA Connect brings together senior and emerging leaders from top AEC firms to share strategies and tactics for building and operating successful knowledge management programs. We connect face-to-face during our annual conference and online via the KA Connect LinkedIn Group.

KA Connect was founded by Knowledge Architecture in 2010.

What is the format of KA Connect?

KA Connect is a two-day general session, broken up by “Hangouts” and breaks. We want folks to walk away from KA Connect with an intense, shared experience.

What is a Hangout?

Conference attendees have asked for conference infrastructure to help them connect with people who share their interests. Basically, they’ve been looking for their unique tribe within the greater KA Connect tribe.

Hangouts are our response. Twice during each annual conference, tables are set up for a period of forty-five minutes to one hour for Hangouts. Here's the cool part — conference attendees drive the Hangout topics. Prior topics have included topics such as Internal Communications, Learning & Development, Lessons Learned, Process Improvement, and Business Intelligence. Hangouts are a great complement to the more formal aspects of the program.

Is there a dress code at KA Connect?

Here's the deal — we don't have one. In short, wear what makes you comfortable and ready to share ideas.

Will there be food?

Yes! We will be serving breakfast, lunch, and snacks both days. We will have coffee, tea, and water service throughout the conference, with additional beverages during breakfast and lunch.

There will be a reception on Tuesday evening. Dinner will be on your own. We encourage you to get together with other KA Connect attendees and keep the conversation going over dinner.

We’ll have a wrap party at Thirsty Bear Brewing on Wednesday evening following the conclusion of the conference.

What should I see while I'm in San Francisco?

We highly suggest sticking around for the weekend. Past attendees have explored the city, visiting our restaurants, museums, and various landmarks, as well as the surrounding areas, including ferry rides to Sausalito and Angel Island, a drive to Mount Tamalpais, Muir Woods, or Point Reyes National Seashore, and some have even ventured as far as Yosemite National Park. They've also brought their friends and family along. May is a great time of year to visit.

How do you select speakers for KA Connect?

Finding KA Connect speakers is a combination of intentional and serendipitous discovery. We come across potential speakers through our research, our client work, social media, industry publications, and conferences.

We are always looking for innovative firms and individuals who are building successful knowledge management programs in architecture, engineering, and construction firms.

If you, your firm, or someone you know is doing something you think would make for a great KA Connect talk, we'd love to hear from you.
